why we started our radio station

We have started this radio station because we believe a community radio station will give Matamata "that little bit extra" when it comes to promoting the people, the opportunities and the adventures that exist in our amazing little town and of course because we LOVE country music. To be honest there just isn't enough country music on the radio these days. There IS country music being played on commercial radio stations, it is just being portrayed as "pop" music. They just don't tell their listeners they are listening to country music.
Take Taylor Swift as an example. She is absolutely one of the biggest things in world music at the moment and in the USA is promoted as a country music singer. She has won mass appeal to a wide range of age groups and is a true ambassador for the country music genre. But here in good old New Zealand, Kay and I have found her CD's being displayed in the "pop" sections of music shops. We take great delight in transferring all Taylor Swift's CD's into the country music section in these shops. Hehe.
Take it from us, Country music is alive and well. We travelled to the CMA Festival in Nashville in 2009. It was absolutely amazing. We say and heard dozens of country music stars and legends perform while we were there. We may put up some photos we took while we were over there to show you all what we saw.
